The third edition of Big Project Middle East’s annual Energy & Sustainability Summit will build on the success of its predecessors, with a distinct focus on how the construction and energy sectors can significantly step-up decarbonisation efforts post COP28.
Although the built environment has made positive strides to move away from unsustainable practices and materials, there’s plenty that can and should be done by regional stakeholders across the supply chain. Following on from COP28, the summit will take stock on what has been achieved by the built environment to date, paint a picture on where it should be, and outline strategies and steps to get there. The summit will also address the growing challenge of greenwashing.
From an energy standpoint, the day-long summit will have a dedicated focus on renewable energy sources – apart from solar – that the MENA region can rollout to decarbonise, the potential of green hydrogen and infrastructure requirements, the rise of waste-to-energy facilities, and much more.
The 2024 edition of the Energy & Sustainability Summit will also encourage stakeholders in the construction and energy segments to actively look outside of themselves, and drive the sustainable transformation of the supply chain, in terms of how materials are sourced, and how end-of-life materials and assets are dealt with.
The summit will convene speakers from government, construction and energy firms, owners and operators, regulators, industry bodies, suppliers and technology companies.
The Energy & Sustainability Summit will present content in a variety of different formats, including high-level panel discussions, keynote speeches, fireside discussions, and expert presentations. The event’s content will focus on the following themes:
How can construction and energy stakeholders make a tangible difference post COP28
Raising awareness about greenwashing and moving beyond platitudes to action
Going beyond solar to decarbonise the MENA region’s energy sector
Sustainably sourcing and responsibly disposing of end-of-life assets and materials
Transitioning to sustainable, locally sourced materials
