Konstantin Samoilov, Roman, Maksim, and Nick are all Russian men who fled from their homeland to avoid being sent to kill Ukrainians. They are all finding it difficult or impossible to immigrate to another country of their choice. This is typical; most escapees are treated with suspicion in Europe, North America, or indeed most other countries now when they apply to immigrate.
